ICON To Hold 2nd Annual Convention

Hyannis, NE – The Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska (ICON) will be holding their 2nd annual Convention and membership meeting on June 8-9 in North Platte, Nebraska.

The Sandhill's Convention Center, Quality Inn & Suites, is the site chosen for the event.

Activities will start at noon on Friday with registration and opening session followed by committee meetings from 1:00 until 4:30 (all times Central). Speakers will address issues on property rights, land acquisition, animal identification, marketing issues, Checkoff survey and reform, education, Class 1's and tax relief legislation.

The Paragon Foundation will be represented, as well as Women Involved in Farm Economics (WIFE) with Pam Potthoff, Trenton.

Senator Cap Dierks, Ewing, and Jim Hanna, Brownlee, will be speaking on Class 1's, Agriculture legislation, and Checkoff reform.

R-CALF USA past Region III director, Herman Schumacher, and present director, Johnny Smith of Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, will be present to speak during the day's General Session, prior to the social hour and the Banquet.

David Domina, Domina Law, Omaha, is returning by request as the Guest Speaker following the banquet. Domina was the lead attorney in the historic Pickett vs. IBP/Tyson lawsuit and continues to practice Trial Law across the country.

The evening's entertainment will be provided by Coyotee Moon, an old-time country band that has performed in Branson, Missouri, and favors greats such as Patsy Cline, Marty Robbins, and Gene Autry.

Saturday, June 9th, the registration desk will be open from 7:30 until noon. There will be two General Sessions in the morning, at 8:00 and 10:00, with lunch winding up the convention.

Brad Bellinger, Australian Beef Association, will be sharing his country's experience with a national animal identification system.

Dr. Bob Taylor, Auburn University, also will be presenting information on Livestock Competition and Economics, as defined by the Packers & Stockyards Act of 1921.

Special guests attending the Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska Convention and Membership meeting and speaking on issues in Washington D.C. and Lincoln are John Berge for Senator Ben Nelson, Mary Crawford representing Congressman Adrian Smith, and State Senators Cap Dierks, Tom Hanson, Leroy Louden, and Mark Christensen.

The Annual Business Meeting of the group will begin at 1:30 and conclude upon the completion of business. The agenda for the meeting can be obtained by calling the office of the organization.

Registration fees are $45 for members and $50 for non-members until June 1st, at which time the cost will increase by an additional $5 for the 2-day event. Friday's banquet tickets will cost $20 each for a sit-down Prime Rib dinner served at 7:00 p.m. CT.
